makig sushi is’nt terribly difficult, once you get the hang of it. However, it’s kind of like making deviled eggs, or roasting a pig, once you figure it out, you realize: hey, that’s why I pay the man to do this in the restaurant.

Modular Terrain Board — In Progress

In this post, I promised I’d submit an update with how it was done.

Well, here it is.

The Board

We had an idea for a game in a cemetery and needed each side to be nearly exactly the same, so I planned! I drew out the plans for the cemetery in illustrator and printed it life sized (without the green background)

I then cut out the individual squares so I could see what was on each one.

First step, cut squares from plywood. I thought the plywood would be better than hardboard because it might not warp as badly later. I was right, but the plywood still warped.

Then, I primed it with random spray paint colors I had in the garage. I did this because I did not want to have to paint the whole thing and I knew that theflock wouldn’t cover everything perfectly.

Then cover the square with PVA glue. This part can be messy and takes a LOT of glue.

Notice that I udes a large piece of cardboad to spread the PVA. I did manage to use only one piece of cardboard the entire time. It got really funky by the end because I did this over the course of several weeks.

Complete the base with a healthy layer of flock and let stand for a least a day.

I’ll have to go back now and paint the edges to make them blend better. but this took forever to dry. After the gue was dry, I noticed many of the board had a slight to moderate warp to them. I used a wet sponge on the back to try to straighten out the warp from the other side, and that did okay. After all was complete with each piece, I sprayed it with matte finish to hopefully keep the flock on the wood. This part was very successful.

I have the APCs painted from GZG and the dudes are primered and waiting for my loving brush.

Pictures will be delivered when I finish the company.

Plans include a couple of platoons of wheeled MBTs from GZG and a platoon of “support walkers” which will be kitted out like heavy tanks but be less durable.
